Dear CRS Members,

I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Tony Chavez, and I was elected the CRS Director for the 2005 season. I have been a CRS member since 1990, and have competed in most CRS events during those years. I'm pretty sure I have met every one of you at one point or another, and I am lucky to have many of you as my personal friends.

I want to apologize for not communicating with you earlier, but sometimes life gets on the way of the things we love to do.

Now to rallying...

The CRS is having a great 2005 rally season. Both Seed 9 and Desert Storm were huge successes, with a healthy entry.

Rim of the World had a first this year, running the tarmac stages Saturday afternoon instead of the traditional Friday night, and from what I hear everyone was very happy. The organizers had to deal with severe weather conditions that affected the overall schedule of the rally, which included running some of the Gorman Ridge roads Saturday morning and having to pretty much turn the Special Stage into exhibition runs, but everything turned out fine and everyone left happy.

Treeline was a HUGE success, Pete and his crew returned to the traditional stage format of starting at Red Box, which meant the first 3 stages were downhill and the last 3 uphill. For those who know these roads, that is the perfect format. Jamie Thomas was the overall winner (first Overall Win in a CRS Rally by a Female) - congratulations to her. Special congratulations to Pat McMahon for a superb route book and course marking.

Gorman was next, and again the weather played a huge part in the schedule. The Forest Rangers authorized the used of the Del Sur roads only at the last minute. The organizers decided to run the entire event at the Off Highway Vehicle Park in Hungry Valley, and many people (including myself), thought the roads wouldn't hold up. We were wrong!!. Alan Musev, son of our long time CRS member and competitor Anton Musev, won the rally overall after taking the lead on the very last stage from Amy Bebervanzo. A well deserved win for Alan, and watch out for Amy - I think she figured out her new Evo.

We are getting ready for Prescott, and then Laughlin. Michael Taylor is hard at work, and he should put on a fine event.

On the Rallycross side, The Gravel Crew moved their event site to Glen Helen Raceway Park because someone trespassed on Leon's property after one of their events was cancelled.

If you have something you want to share with the CRS send me a note, I'll include it in my notes to the members. Also please let me know what you guys are doing, I am sure most of us want to know.

Til' next time,

Tony Chavez
Director
